NAIROBI, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Kenya's opposition said on Friday it planned to restart protests across the east African nation against President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election after the failure of African Union mediation.

Opposition leaders will hold an afternoon news conference "to announce the immediate resumption of nationwide mass action against the irregular presidential results," Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) spokesman Tony Gachoka said.

Is this really the way forward for us after a death toll of somewhere between 500 and maybe even up to 1000 people dead because of the recent protests?

I'll keep you updated as we hear more.

I read Kofi Annan is to get in on the act after John Kufuor's attempts failed. Will they not wait until they heard what Annan has to say?

I really really hope so but no-one seems to really know when Kofi Annan is actually arriving which isn't particularly helpful at this stage.

Lets hope we get more information as the day wears on.

Just to lighten the mood: A neighbour of mine, Michael Coffee, is married to Anne. See where this is going?

When we're talking about them we call them Coffee 'n' Anne. It was hilarious the first time, but they're a little fed up with it now.

I most definitely chuckled there.
Don't suppose they'd like a trip to Kenya for a spot of mediation - they might get here quicker than the man himself and if nothing else I'm sure they'll do better than yer man Kufuour anyhow! - I mean its not possible to do any worse now is it?
